TREKFEST IS ON

According to KCRG-TV, TREKFEST is on.  Riverside's Star Trek-themed summer event was in jeopardy for the past month after the Riverside City Council voted not to give $10,000 to the Riverside Area Community Club, which organizes the festival. But organizers announced that they've secured enough donations to move forward. The weekend-long festival celebrates the city's billing as the future birthplace of Capt. James T. Kirk. SCOTT AKERS HAS A BIG HAMMER

Designed as the Commander of my Warhammer 40K Space Marine Army, the True Templers, Commander Hugh Godwyn. The Miniature Stands about 1 inch tall, and took about three weeks to paint, The Base is painted as if he is standing in Snow, and the mini is basecoated in Dark Angels Green. He carries a Big Hammer named Mjolnir. The Greeves and Gloves are painted White to represent the purity of lambskin.

The Cape and Curriasses are trimmed in Gold and yellow, and highlighter with Goblin Green and shaded with a a darker green mixed with black paint. The hardest part to paint were the eyes, first I dipped the smallest amount of white into the recesses. Then after that dried, I used my finest brush with about ten sable hairs with a small bit of blue paint and just barely touched the orbs to create iris coloring.

The headset on his right ear really stands out in the picture more than it actually does by the contrast of the darker maroon over the flesh coloring of the bare pate. All in all one of my favorite models, and sits in the display case above my desk in a position of honor.

BUDGET CUTS CURTAIL SEARCH FOR ALIEN LIFE

A collection of sophisticated radio telescopes in California that scan the heavens for extraterrestrial signals has suspended operations because of lack of funding, a spokeswoman said Monday.

The Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence Institute operates the Allen Telescope Array, the field of dish-like scopes some 300 miles north of San Francisco. The telescopes are a joint effort of SETI and University of California-Berkeley's Radio Astronomy Lab and have been funded largely by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, who donated more than $25 million to the project.
